What is decanting?

Decanting is a process where wine is carefully poured from the bottle into a wide carafe. This serves two main purposes: firstly, it separates any sediment that has accumulated in the wine, and secondly, it allows the wine to breathe, allowing the flavors and aromas to fully develop. This is particularly beneficial for older (red) wines with sediment, but it can also enhance the taste of young red wines by aerating them.
